Mandy's Drawing

Okay, how interesting i found this drawing in my fren's blog.
It made me so feel like draw something back to enhance it.
It is 2 kids cycling in a paddy field.
from her referrence i knew that wat the theme she would like to draw
White clouds, blue sky, huge huge field that hard to see the end..
Thats wat i guess.
Here i have few comments that i hope i can help her to enhance her skills and art-work.

First of all,
i very appreciate your art sense,
from the drawing i can see you have a talent in art,
atleast you are so clever to find a references to follow,
thats a very smart way to draw nice work in shorter time


what you gonna do is , in the first thing when u start filling colours is,
analyze where the sun light come from?? from top from back?
So, for your case, it is come from the right upper side,
why lighting so important?
because it is the key to make ur drawing look real and believable,
same lighting for all the things will make ppl know thats all in the same place,
when you knew where the light come from,
brighten the edges where the objects be shined.
You can refer to wat i hightlighten red colours in the drawing below.


Start filling ur draw with the brighter colour and slowly to the darker colour,
where the thing less or harder to be shined , for sure it will be darker in colours,
for ur case ur light is actually come forward from the front so ur broght colour
might be the side and the middleis dark colour, to make the feeling of the back light case,
(when u took a picture that a sunshine behind u, proprably u cant see ur face, that's how.)
beside that, remember to add in the shadows, not only for the kids, but everything inside,
like grasses, tree, houses, whatever..
so, indeed u also need to be brave to add in the darker colour as u said,
i saw u try to make the shadow and all that but when it is not dark enought then wat u trying
is wasted, the effects wont come out.



Next, what i wanna remind u is, my steps is not one by one steps, is randomly one, hahhaa.
SO, lets us see the prespective of the drawing,
basically this kind of landscape drawing is hard to say the perspective is wrong or right,
but the, in our eyes visual, we need to enhance it to be more comfortable for ur audience,
basic rules for the drawing perspective is, the thing infront is always bigger than the things
at the back, so dun make the far far things too big to make ppl have wrong illusion.
For my opinion, i feel the drawing is not that wide that i can feel
the main reason for me is the tree, it is too high to make me feel it is so near to me,
second, is the roundness of the ground, flatter ground will make ppl feel that is more wide,
especially the mountain at the ack, lower the height can be more perfect to make the drawing wider.


Okay, lastly but there are few things, ur clouds is too blue alr,
what ppl always say is like, blue sky white clouds,
so ur sky have to blue but ur clouds have to white,
enhance the clouds shape with a bit bit darker colour at the edges of the clouds,
refer to the drawing below,
another thing is, the body language of ur main characters is not enuf,
their are showing only thei back to us,
so absolutely we can see their happy face or funny facial expression,
then what we can do is the body language,
they are riding the bicycle,
but theey still can light racing to each others,
enjoy the wind blow with open their two hands,
playing each other with stick? may be,
holding some fishing tools,
add more detail on the main character will make the drawing more interesting,
okay, the last last one is the subcharacters,
there is somekind emptiness i can feel in ur drawing,
may be u can add some subcharacters like kerbau or the "grass man"?
no need to add to much but thats will enhance the feeling that we are in a pddy field,
because from the first view i see ur drawing i tot is kebun sayur.
in addition, u may add some chracteristic to ur drawing like,all the grasses is toward a direction
because of the wind blowing.

this is a simple sample that i draw with ur drawing in 30 mins,
it is hard to control in computer brushed and tired today, so it is not complete yet,
and lazy to complete too. XD hahaha
